Our Mission

The YMCA of Greater San Antonio has served this community since 1876, faithfully guided by its mission to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The Y's impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child and when a community comes together for the common good.

The Y is a cause-driven organization that is for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility — because a stronger community can only be achieved when we invest in our children, our health and our neighbors.

We have been listening and responding to our communities' most critical needs for almost 140 years. Where there is disease, poverty, educational disparity, insufficient access to health care services and wholesome family recreation options, the YMCA of Greater San Antonio brings healing, scholarships, nutrition, fitness and programs to promote healthy living in 19 counties, through 11 YMCA centers and over 200 community partner sites. Whether developing life skills or emotional wellbeing through education and training, or preventing chronic disease and building healthier communities through collaboration with policymakers and community health providers, the Y fosters the care and respect all people need and deserve. Through the Y, leaders and partners across South Texas are empowering our neighbors to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.
